Understanding the (BH) Bharat Series Number

What is the Bharat Series (BH) number ?

In August 2021, the Indian Government introduced the BH Number Plate, also known as the Bharat Series Registration Number, for non-transport vehicles. With the BH Series number plate, you don't have to change your vehicle's registration when you move from one state to another. The registration for the BH series started on September 15, 2021.

For instance, according to the Motor Vehicles Act, imagine your car is registered in Haryana with a HR number plate. If you move, you're allowed to keep using the HR number plate for 12 months in the new state. After that, you need to register your vehicle in the new state. However, with the BH series registration number, this isn't required. It's important to note that the BH series number plate isn't available to everyone.

Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) employees who work in different states can avoid the hassle of re-registration by using the BH plate. Likewise, private company employees who work for companies operating in at least four states or union territories can also get the BH series, making it easier for them to register their vehicles when they move.
